The month of december

Assalamu'alaikum,

It's the month of december. countdown to new year. 2008 that is. I've been so preoccupied with little things in life and seemed to forget that i do have a bloG to update.

A lot has happenned a month ago. In our country that is. street demonstrations have predominantly occupied our mainstream media, lately.

My view is reserved. I am practising the 'look see' attitude. Hey c'mmon, like everyone else i am also malaysian. thats what we all do right? we all like to 'look & see' whether it would effect us in any way. if it doesn't we would normally leave it as it is and go on with our lives. But if it does effect our lives we will 'look & see' whether it would have a grave effect to our present life or not, in other words how serious is it? if no, we will leave it & carry on with our lives as usual. By the way, most of us wouldn't care if it effects our 'cucus' or 'cicits'. Dont ask me why.

Well okay, let's face it. It seems there is a segment of our society who feel that they have been sidelined and marginalised for the past 50 years since we gained our independence. They also alleged that they have somewhat been oppressed to a certain extent and in some cases the allegation goes as far as being cleansed out of existence. Their ethnicity that is. Well, if you do live in malaysia, born and bred that is, you would know that these allegations are nothing more than a load of - the substance that is being processed by our Indah Water.

Ok, ok ... for those sympathisers out there, yes i would agree to a certain extent that these segment of our society who according to the statistics are the minority race in this country MIGHT have been marginalised and sidelined. BUT Hey! wait! Dont we all feel marginalised and sidelined at times, even if we belong to the race group that are known as 'the prince of earth' or those race group that when they celebrate their new year almost majority of our shops will be closed for a week? This feeling is shared by all of us no matter what race we belong to.

Okay. Let us be realistic Imagine we are being ruled by the British. This supposition is on the 'what if basis'. That is what if our Almarhum Tunku and his delegates were denied independence 50 years ago?

Let us see what could have happenned. First, I verily believe that our prime minister will be somebody who carries a surname instead of a 'bin' or 'binti' or a/l or a/p. Maybe our petronas will be BP instead, that is british petroleum and our satellite tv will come directly under the BBC. How about the aviation industry. Yes maybe for the country's sake they will allow malaysia airlines to fly just like when they allowed the cathay pacific when they ruled Hong Kong. But Air Asia? Headed by a minority race? i doubt so very much. How about our ports? will they allow it to be run by a minority race also?

Let's face it. I believe we all can agree if our quest for independence 50 years ago was denied or failed for whatever reason maybe, our country would not be the same. For the better, you would ask? I doubt so very much. Unless you are a die hard fan of the union jack and a loyal subject of the Queen of England, maybe you would feel like 'died and went to heaven'.

Ok my question is, if really truly the Indians have been marginalised and sidelined deliberately by the Government and victimised for the last 50 years do you think: -

a. one of them can control our satellite TV? Owned one of the biggest telecommunication company? and this person who carries the title tan sri is reported to be the wealthiest person if not, the second most wealthiest person in the country.

b. they are allowed to build a very huge statue in batu caves in gold colour overlooking the city? and not to forget to carry on with their yearly procession of carrying 'kavadi' and what not during the thaipusam.

c. the celebration of their faith known to us as deepavali and others as diwali be given a public holiday status and being celebrated nationally as rumah terbuka deepavali and attended by our King and PM? also thaipusam for some states?

d. one of them jointly owned in majority and operates a very successful low cost air carrier in the country known as air asia?

e. their schools and temples flourished everywhere eventhough some have been disallowed due to non approval by the local municipality.

f. one of our ports situated in klang is being operated by one of them also carries a title tan sri.

g. can win 1st ever malaysian idol.

... and i think the list goes on and on

Janganlah 'be too apologetic'.

OK. Best regards always.

Subang Jaya.
